My Covid Story

Hello friends,

Through this post I want to share my ordeal with corona, hoping it would help some of you. Know that you are not alone in this and most of the infections go away with home isolation. So there is absolutely no need  to worry. Just do as your doctor says and keep a tab on your vitals and inform your doctor if your symptoms get worse.

Thankfully for us, me and my husband, the viral load was less and we recovered at home. We got infected with corona somewhere around last week of Oct 2020. First my husband started showing symptoms. He had fever for straight 3 days 30, 31st and 1st Nov. His fever would subside when taken paracetamol, and would go up again once the effect of paracetamol was over. His fever had gone up to 101 and just a mild running nose which is very normal for him since he has sinus issues. He was also feeling very weak for the past 3-4 days. That is when we decided for him to get tested. His rapid antigen test came negative and RT-PCR result was awaited. Nevertheless we consulted a doctor and he asked him to get his blood tests done. He got his test results back and there were signs of mild typhoid which is very common in covid infections. Since we were not aware about this then we thought it was typhoid. He started taking medicines  for Typhoid and we would monitor his SPO2 continuously. His fever went down also his weakness was gone so we thought probably he had only typhoid and there is nothing serious to worry about, waiting all this while for his RT-PCR report. In those times an RT-PCR result would take days to arrive and sometimes would be lost in the process if you got it done from any Government Body in India.

And then on 5th day since his symptoms had appeared I also got fever. I had fever all day and felt tired throughout the day. I took a Dolo and rested for the rest of the day. My fever went down and the next day I was fine. We thought maybe I too had contracted Typhoid and would be ok. After 2 days I started having severe headache and weakness. I couldn't understand what was it, but didn't rule out the possibility of Covid. The next day my smell was gone and we were sure that it was Covid. I consulted a doctor online he advised me to take just multivitamins and dolo if my fever ever came up again till I got tested. For the next few days we both didn't had any fever, he was doing fine may be on the way to recovery but I started having cough and my head would hurt badly. I didn't had cold or runny nose. It just felt different from a regular cold. My sense of smell and taste was gone and I felt very hungry through out the day. As if nothing I was eating was filling my stomach.  During all this time we kept inhaling steam every 4 hours and would drink lots of warm water. He was on typhoid meds and and was on multivitamins. We also kept checking out SPO2 which remained stable throughout so that was a relief.

And then almost after 8 days of getting tested my husband's report came positive. I also got my positive report 3 days after that. It didn't surprise us because by that time we already knew that we had covid. Doctor didn't give us more meds because our CT value was high indicating lower risk of infection and also because so much time had passed in between and our symptoms were not getting worse. I was fine in 1 week since I had fever. Although my taste and smell were still gone but it takes some time to get them back after covid. My husband's condition also improved. We continued taking steam and kadha and multivitamins for another week. Our Corona lasted for around 14 days, comparatively better on the later days. During all this time we kept our calm, stayed at home in isolation, did breathing exercises every morning and took steam.

Here are some key takeaways from my Ordeal :

1.If you have a doubt that you have corona then you probably have it.

2. Get tested for corona

3. Since in this wave it is much more fatal and infections, do get your CRP and D-Dimers test done as well.

4. Take consultation from a doc and monitor your vitals. Do not ignore your symptoms and do what your doctor says.

5. Take medications as prescribed by doctor. Do not for a second think that you can get better on your own and be your own doctor.

6. Take lots and lots of Steam

7. Eat healthy like boiled eggs, pulses, drink coconut water. Take vitamin C in abundance.

8. Take vit D. either by supplements or morning sunlight.

9. Mild Typhoid is sometimes detected in Corona which is normal. Don't just rely on blood tests, get          RT-PCR done as well.

10. Rest as long as you want. And as long as your body needs it.

11. Exercise regularly. Do yoga and mild exercises. Don't Stress yourself out.

12. Talk to your friends and family. Healthy mind=Healthy body. Stay happy!

13. This is not permanent and you will get better.

14. Do not self medicate! And Do not take steroids unless told by a doctor. They do more harm than          good if taken incorrectly.

We were lucky to have had a mild covid and were fortunate enough to get recovered at home. My smell and taste came back after 3 weeks.  I took the rt-pcr test again after 4 weeks since I had to resume my office and tested negative. Situation today is very bad. Do not for a second let your guards down. Take all necessary precautions while going out. We were always very careful but never knew from where we had caught it. If there is anything you want to know then let me know, I would be happy to help you out. Stay Safe Everyone!
